FAQS & Seller Agreement:

 What is it?   The Moore Yarn Consignment Club is a great, new way to rejuvenate your yarn stash by getting rid of yarns you no longer love or cannot use and find new treasures for future projects.

  

Who?

Anyone who has yarn that they no longer love, cannot use, or even forgot why they got it can become a Selling Member of the Moore Yarn Consignment Club.

What?

Premium yarns of any kind, any fiber, any quantity (full hank/skeins only please). Yarns that your would love to see and purchase. We may be opening it up to books & patterns at a later date.

How?            

Register annually as a Selling Member of Moore Yarn Attic Club for just $5. Then bring in yarns that you want to de-stash. The staff will check you in & price your items (An item is defined as a single color of a brand & Variety (Ex. 5 hanks of Berroco Vintage is 1 item.), up to a maximum of 5 per month*, will be set out for sale. When something sells, you’ll get 40% of the sale price. Anything that is rejected will be returned to you or donated to local seniors for Charity projects.

When?

The 1^st through the 8^th of each month* we will be accepting items for sale. You’ll be notified within a few days if any items have been rejected and need to be picked up. On the 20^th of the month, sales up to the 19^th of the month will be included in that month’s payments.

* This is being waived until further notice but may change at any time.

We want The Moore Yarn Consignment Club to be a fun experience for everyone. We pledge to offer fair prices and great value for both our customers & our club members.

 

FAQs

What is Consignment? When your leave an item or items with someone for the purpose of selling them. When they are sold, you receive a percentage of the sale price, generally ranging from 40% to 60%.

What types of yarns will be accepted?  Yarns that you, as a shopper, would like to see luxury fibers, premium yarns and hand dyed, as well as old standards from your stash that need to be moved along, are perfect for the Moore Yarn Consignment Club. Any quantity of yarn is accepted, but full Hank or Skeins only. They may be purchased as a group or individually.

What will not be accepted? Most generic yarns found in Big Box & discount stores will be rejected. We do not feel that these yarns represent the quality of yarn that our customers are used to.  Please, don’t be offended if we say no to something you bring in.

How is yarn priced? Yarns are priced based on an average of retail price or the original purchase price (as marked) less 20%.

How long will yarns be available for sale? Yarns will be placed on the Sales floor for a minimum of 2 months and then replaced with new items. This means if you see something you like – get it; it may not be there when you come back.

What happens at the end of the Consignment Period? At the end of the consignment period, the yarns are removed and returned to their owners. This allows us to bring new and different yarns to you on a frequent basis. Just like outlet stores and other consignment stores, it is important to stop back early and often. New items will be put out on (or about) the 10^th of each month.

What if my yarn is sold? When your yarn is sold, you will receive a check for 40% of the sales price. The remainder goes towards rent of the unit, packaging, etc.

Can previously accepted, but unsold yarn be brought back? Sure, but please wait 6 months before bringing it back.

Can previously rejected yarns be brought back? Yes, but unless we could not accept it because of a lack of space, it will likely be rejected again.

How do I sign up?

Fill out this form - Consignment Agreement  and bring it with you when you bring your first yarns for consignment. Annually, there is a $5 fee for joining the Moore Yarn Consignment Club, which you may make back in just one sale!

Worked flat, this adorable romper will keep your new little one surrounded by love. All you need is 200yds DK weight yarn and US 4 & US 6 24” circular needles. What do you need to know? Cast on, Knit, Purl, Bind Off. Class cost $50, pattern included.

Cambrio Cap by Laura Nelkin

Sundays, 10/21 from 11a-1p

Criss Crossing long stitches working in a variegated yarn contrasted by a solid color background. This cap is quick to make and the perfect gift. What do you need to know? Cast on, Knit & Purl, work with circular needles. Class cost $35, plus $33 for kit (color selection is limited, so sign up early!)

All Pockets Bag

Sunday October 28^th and Sunday November 11^th from 11am-1pm

Love bags with pockets? Come learn this intriguing technique to add pockets to your bag as you knit the bag. What do you need to know? Cast on, Knit & Purl, work with circular needles.

What will you learn: Picking up multiple stitches in same location, working with “Woven Circular needles”, Sewn Hem Bind off

Materials: 2 contrasting colors worsted weight yarn – 200 yds each & two US 6 or US7 24” or 32” Circular needles (You can use different length cables, but the needle side should be the same.), 1 locking stitch marker, tapestry needle for weaving in ends and Sewn Hem Bind off

Cost $50 (pattern included), plus materials

Knit Sweater University 5

Begins Saturday 10/20th from 9am-12pm

Top Down and no seams! Lacy leaf buttonhole band and ribbed detail in the back! What do you need to know? Cast on, Knit & Purl, Bind Off. Most of this project is worked flat from the top to the bottom; the sleeves are worked in the round. This is a monthly class beginning in October and going through March 2019 (6 sessions). Cost of the class is $180 paid in advance or $40 per class individually.

Materials: Sized XS to 3XL: Worsted weight yarn – 1,000 – 2,000 yds; US7 32” Circular needles

Pre-registration (including payment) is required for all classes.

Class participation is limited to 8, with a minimum of 1.

Many Knitters and Crocheters take the summer off and play in the sun & sand! At Moore Yarn, we plan for and get ready for our Fall classes! Here's the line-up beginning in September:

Building With Lace - beginning 9/6* 

1^st Thursday of Each month from 

September 2018 thru June 2019

Up your lace game with this program! Each month, we will explore a different lace technique, stitch pattern and gain confidence in working complex patterns. This class is designed for Intermediate & Experienced knitters, although an Advanced beginner ready for a serious challenge will be successful.  Class meets from 7-9pm and costs $25/session there will be Pre-Class meeting on Thursday Aug 23^rd from 7-9

Materials: 1,400 yds Sport Weight yarn (Rylie by HiKoo is recommended), US 6 24” circular needles with sharp points (addi Lace are recommended), Building With Lace book by Michelle Hunter (available @ Moore Yarn at Airport Plaza)

Building in Color - beginning 9/13* 

2^nd Thursday of Each month from 

September 2018 – June 2019

Color adds spice to your life. Learn color techniques and how to introduce color to add pop and interest to your projects.  Each month, we will explore color techniques, stitch pattern and become comfortable working with multiple balls of yarn. This class is designed for Advanced Beginners to Experienced knitters. Class meets from 7-9pm and costs $25/session 

Materials: 800 yds each of 3 colors DK weight yarn (Simplicity by HiKoo is recommended), US 6 24” circular needles, Building In Color book by Michelle Hunter (available @ Moore Yarn at Airport Plaza)

Building in Color - beginning 9/20*

3^rd Thursday of Each month from September 2018 – October 2019

Expand your basic knitting skills with this amazing program! Each month, basic skills are reviewed and expanded; from reading patterns and charts to various increases & decreases. You will gain confidence with each block you work and build a solid knitting skills foundation. This class is designed for confident beginning knitters. Class meets from 7-9pm and costs $25/session

Materials: 1,700 yds chunky weight yarn (Simpliworsted by HiKoo or Vintage Chunky by Berroco are recommended), US 10 24” circular needles (addi Turbo or rockets are recommended), Building Blocks book by Michelle Hunter (available @ Moore Yarn at Airport Plaza)

Crochet Next Steps - beginning 9/1*

1st Saturday of Each month from September 2018 – October 2019

Crocheters, stop doing the same old thing! Learn basic crochet skills and expand your knowledge of crochet in this monthly program. Explore pattern reading, chart reading, increases & decreases, simple lace and crochet techniques such as Tunisian Crochet and Filet Crochet. Class meets from 2-4pm and costs $25/session.

Materials: 2,000 yds chunky weight yarn (Vintage Chunky by Berroco is recommended), US I & J hooks and Tunisian Hook US J, Crochet Next Steps book by Florence Smith (available @ Moore Yarn at Airport Plaza)

 Panda Diaper Set

Add a new heirloom to your family! This will add cuteness to your first photos. Designed with newborns in mind, the Panda Diaper Set is easy to crochet and looks very sweet. Are you curious about how a concept becomes a pattern? 

Have you ever wondered why some patterns are good and some are not? 

Do you want to learn how to write a pattern for a small project? 

If you answered YES to any of these questions, Behind the Scenes - Design Series is for you! They are single session workshops where you can learn about how patterns are written and how you can write your own. 


Session 1 (3/17 or 3/31; 2-4pm) Just the facts, please
In this session, we will look at how a pattern is born. From the development of the concept, selection of materials, creation of the prototype and the first draft of the pattern. Good Pattern or Bad Pattern… how do you select the right pattern for your project?
Session 2: (4/14 12-2p or 4/22, 11-1p) Pattern Modification
From tweaking patterns to customize for fit, swap out stitch patterns and change parts (necks, armholes, collars, etc) you don't like will be explored in this session. This session will be a pre-requisite for participants in Sweater University 4 where we will be making a classic sweater vest that is customized.
Session 3 (5/30 & 5/31 7-9pm or 6/6 & 6/10 11a-1p) Let's Write
Try your hand at creating a pattern for fingerless gloves (Knit or Crochet). This 2 session class will focus on the writing of a pattern using a pattern template

How do you know when a pattern will give you the results you expect & what the designer intended? This series will help you evaluate patterns and make decisions about the patterns you use. Learn about what happens behind the scenes with designers; how they develop their patterns. Understand why some patterns are easier to work with than others. Increase your success rate almost any pattern you choose. Sessions 1 & 2 cost $35 separately and Session 3 has 2 parts and costs $50 separately or you can purchase a series pass to all 4 for just $125. Get the tools you need to make better  - more informed decisions about the patterns for your knitting or crocheting.

March is National Crochet Month!

March is National Crochet Month and we are excited about our Mochila Bag Project for this month. The Wayuu tribe in Columbia is known for their brightly colored and amazing designs of their mochila. Now you can learn Tapestry Crochet and make your own! The 2 session class will be held March 4th and 11th from 11a-1p and cost $50. The pattern we will be using is Mochila Ibu by Marian Verloop & is available on Ravelry. Class is limited to 8 participants & pre-registration is required.

Materials: Worsted weight cotton yarn (300 yds each of 3 colors & 600 yds of main color), US G/7 crochet hook, locking stitch marker.

New Session of Building Blocks Starting!

We will be starting our next session of Building Blocks by Michelle Hunter on Saturday, March 10th at 10am. Each month, beginning knitters, newer knitters and knitters who want to improve their knitting skills will have the opportunity to do just that. From pattern & chart reading to different types of increases and decreases, each month's square will challenge and inspire success. Learn about cables, mock cables and bobbles as well as blocking and seaming as a part of this amazing program. 

This class meets once a month for 2 hours and costs $25 for each session. The program book is $22 & you will need 1,700 yds of chunky weight yarn, US 10 24" circular needles and stitch markers to get started. Yarn Basics

Everything you've always wanted to know about yarn, but were afraid to ask. What are Yarn weight categories and why are they important? Why do I have to save the yarn ball label? Ounces or Yards? Yarn today is not your grandmother's yarn and while 13 ounces is still 13 ounces, it may not be enough for your project. Come find out why!

Small Business Matters!

"Small Business Matters" is not just a phrase.

Business owners choose to open businesses that specialize in services, products or a combination of the two. They work to keep their expenses and their prices low, sometimes by staffing the business themselves or with 1 or 2 employees. As many consumers turn to the Internet for their products at a lower price and no shipping charges, why would you choose to support your local businesses in general and your Local Yarn Shop, in particular? 

One word can answer that question… Service!

You Need Your Local Yarn Shop in General

& Moore Yarn at Airport Plaza in particular

1. You can touch the yarn and see the real color! Know immediately whether it is the right choice for your project. Trying to match a color? When searching online, how do you know what the color looks like “in person”? We can help you find the best match with color cards with real yarn, and project samples using the yarn.
2. Yarn substitution for a project can be intimidating. Online customer service will not advise you of other suitable options. They don’t care about your project. Why waste time & money and then more time & money trying to get the right yarn, in the right color? Your LYS values your business and will work with you to get just the right combination.
3.  Once your start your project with your yarn purchased online, what do you do if you have a question about the instructions? Customer service online will not answer your questions, nor will they direct you to pattern errata. It’s not about your yarn or where you got it, it’s about your project’s success!
4. Drop a stitch or make a mistake that went awry when you tried to fix it? No problem! We will
   get you back on track. We also offer classes, such as Fixing Mistakes, Finishing in Style, Pattern Reading and Chart reading to help you get yourself back on track and stay there.
5. Finished your project and now what? You could call your favorite online store and ask them how to block your project, or you could check out your other options. Give your LYS a call a see how they can help.
6. Online classes and tutorials are not for everyone. If you are a visual learner, the computer screen cannot give you a 3D view and may not be the best method to see or learn techniques. The camera angles may not be right or the person may be leaving out a step – because they assume you know to do it. Our classes offer a wide variety of techniques as part of progressive learning experiences (Building Block, Building in Color, Building With Lace, & Crochet Next Steps). 1 on 1 instruction is always available, by appointment.
7. UFOs (Un Finished Objects) lurk in our closets and project bags, sometimes for years. Who can you call to get back on track? Right! Your Local Yarn shop – US! Figuring out where the project stopped, project notes that don’t seem to make sense, & resolving issues relating to why you stopped and getting started again are mysteries we love to solve.
8.  Did Grandma or Aunty Ellen start a project that they are not longer able to complete. You may be able to find someone online that can do it, but do you want to take the chance the that that special project gets lost in the “mail”. You can stop by and show us the project and we would be happy to help you in any way we can.
9.  Have a favorite sweater that needs aa bit of tender loving care. Whether it’s handmade or store bought, if we can, we will fix it for you. From simple to complex repairs, we will do our best to get it back in circulation.

Need to be inspired? That can happen online and in person, but being able to ask questions, touch and feel a project being worked on is priceless.

So, when it’s time to start that new project, before you go online for your yarn and supplies, remember what you can get from your Local Yarn Shop.  Seeking a good value is important, your LYS is happy to spend time with you selecting materials, getting started and supporting you. Think of your LYS purchase as being a way of thanking the shop for being there when you need them – for inspiring you, letting you touch & see yarns, accessories, needles, hooks and expanding your skills, not to mention help whenever you need it!
